Programme Philosophy and Objectives

The philosophy of the postgraduate diploma programme in Animal Science is to provide postgraduate training in Animal Science for Higher National Diploma graduates of Agriculture, other non-agriculture degree professionals wishing to convert to agriculture and recent graduates of agriculture who otherwise would not qualify for admission into Masters Degree Programme in Soil Science

Aims and Objectives-

The Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Animal Management and Land Use Planning is aimed at:
a) Producing persons with advanced knowledge and skills in Animal Science
b) Provide training in specific aspects of soil management and land use planning

MASTER OF ANIMAL SCIENCE (MSS) DEGREE-

Philosophy

The philosophy of the Master of Animal Science Degree Programme is to provide advanced professional training for upgrading knowledge and skills of Bachelors (Honours) degree holders employed in industry, the Public Service or those on self-employment.

Aims and Objectives

The Professional Master of Animal Science Degree Programme is aimed at:
a) Providing advanced professional training for graduate employee in industry, the Public Service or in Self-employment
b) Providing advanced training in specific aspects of Animal Science

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) DEGREE IN ANIMAL SCIENCE-

Philosophy

The philosophy of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree Programme in Animal Science and related disciplines is to develop high level manpower to pursue careers in academics and research. It is to provide the highest degree of specialization in a particular field in the context of expanding knowledge globally and solving real life problems.

Aims and Objectives

The Doctor of Philosophy Degree Programme in Animal Science is aimed at:
a) Equipping students with research skills through the conduct of supervised research, seminar presentation and thesis preparation
b) Provide training for those whose future careers lies in the teaching and research at the tertiary level and in research and development in the public and private sector

PGD Admission Requirements
Candidates seeking admission for Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Science must have any of the following qualifications from recognized institutions:

  1. Higher National Diploma in Agriculture with a minimum of Lower Credit
  2. Minimum of Pass Degree at Bachelor’s level in Agriculture or Sciences
  3. Minimum of Pass in Higher National Diploma plus ten (10) years cognate experience

Duration of Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

a. The Full-time Postgraduate Diploma Programme shall run for a minimum duration of two (2) semesters and maximum of four (4) semesters
b. The Part-time Postgraduate Diploma Programme shall run for a minimum duration of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR Master OF ANIMAL SCIENCE
Admission Requirements Candidates seeking admission for the Master of Animal Science Degree Programme must have any of the following qualifications from recognized institutions
a) Higher National Diploma in Agriculture with a Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Science or equivalent.
b) Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division
c) 3rd Class degree with PGD passed at credit level.
Duration of the Master of Animal Science Degree Programme
a) The Full-time Master of Animal Science Degree Programme shall run for a minimum duration of two (2) semesters and maximum of four (4) semesters.
b) The Part-time Master of Animal Science Degree Programme shall run for a minimum duration of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) PROGRAMME

Candidates seeking admission for Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Animal Science must have the following qualifications from recognized institutions: Masters Degree in Animal Science or related disciplines with a minimum CGPA of 3.5

Duration of Doctor of Philosophy Degree Programmes

  • The Full-time Doctor of Philosophy Degree Programme shall run for a minimum duration of four (4) semesters and maximum of six (6) semesters.
  • The Part-time Doctor of Philosophy Degree Programme shall run for a minimum duration of six (6) semesters and maximum of eight (8) semesters.
